In preparation for Operation New Life in 1965, Sergeant Major Higgins inventories his supplies for deployment to "Rice Bowl" area in the vicinity of Tahn Linn.  Operation New Life's main objective was to provide protection for the indigenous population of the "Rice Bowl" area while they conducted harvesting activities of the rice crops.  This was a critical mission as it allowed the villagers to bring in their rice crops which were under threat of seizure by the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese forces.
