| This outstanding picture is of an Australian Army soldier serving during the battle of Gallipoli is a priceless piece of photographic history. The picture was taken with the Sphinx and pyramids in the background during 1914. The soldier is J.Westley Montgomery of the Australian Light Horse. What is particularly amazing about this image is how well it captures a magnificent moment in time with such recognisable landmarks in the frame.Serving as part of the ANZAC force, J. Westley Montgomery distinguished himself as an outstanding soldier as did the entire ANZAC force. The ANZAC's are the pride of Australia and New Zealand and are commemorated every year on ANZAC Day. ANZAC Day - 25 April - is probably Australia's most important national occasion. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. The soldiers in those forces quickly became known as ANZACs, and the pride they soon took in that name endures to this day. (Reference: Australian War Memorial Site) Image Submitted By: E.
